About Me...

 Staff Photo
Hello orchestra families!

I currently teach grades 5-8 between Bentley, Spencer Crossing, and Martino Jr. High.  I also teach general music at Martino Jr. High.  I am a recent graduate of Eastern Illinois University (Charleston, IL), and was blessed to find a new position in the same district in which I was a student teaching!  I have been working with Mrs. Williams-Jackson at Lincoln-Way Central and West, as well as Mrs. Venutolo at Liberty Jr. High, Oakview, and Nelson Ridge.  Although I have recently graduated, my strings and music knowledge began when I started playing the violin at age 5.

I learned the violin through the Suzuki method, a method that focuses on the fact that EVERYONE can learn an instrument using the principles of learning a new language (or the "mother-tongue approach").  The Suzuki method is also a method that is student-focused and incorporates aural learning in the classroom to assist students in reading music.  With parent and community support, loving encouragement, and repetition in their practice, students have a perfect environment for their program in NLSD 122.  I also teach private lessons to students looking for more individualized instruction.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy performing solo and in chamber ensembles for weddings and other community performances.  I also enjoy playing the electric violin and finding new sounds while creating arrangements.  I am a member of the Air Force National Guard, where I attend drill one weekend a month in Springfield, IL, and have been enlisted for 6 years.  I plan on continuing my next enlistment and hope to become an officer one day.  I enjoy staying active by weight-lifting, high-intensity interval classes, and relaxing with a book or my current favorite Netflix series.

I am happy to be a part of the NLSD 122 staff family and am looking forward to continuing this district's wonderful orchestra program!
