Welcome to Mrs. Mistro's Class News and Notes!
Second grade will be filled with many new experiences for your child. I use this page to post current class news, important notes, and other information related to our classroom. Check here frequently during the school year to keep posted on the exciting things we will be doing!
Week of January 21 - January 31, 2020
Reading Story: "Money Matters" and "I Wanna Iguana" (tests will be at the end of this week and the beginning of next week), begin Theodore Roosevelt
Reading Skills: text features, story structure
Phonics/Spelling: r-controlled vowels test on Wednesday, January 22, next list = plurals
Grammar: commas, quotation marks
Writing: opinion writing
Please practice your green sight words list. I am so proud of how the class is doing so far! Please remember that your child can turn in their "Word Master" ready-to-test form at any time, but testing will not occur on a daily basis.
Math: Unit 5 - Addition and Subtraction, test will be Friday, January 24, Unit 6 - Whole Number Operations and Number Stories
Students should be going on Reflex Math as many days as possible per week. We try to do at least 4 days a week in the classroom, but more is better! :-)
Social Studies: chapter 3 - "The World Around Us"
Please remember to check weather conditions and make sure your child is prepared! Bring those "magic 5" needed for the cold!
Please remember to sign your child's blue planner/tracker every night. Purple reading/math logs should be turned in on Mondays.
Student journals will come home on Fridays. I'm asking that students write a note to parents each Friday about their week. Parents, please write a note back to your child. Journals should be returned the following Monday. Thank you for your support!
SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: https://clubs.scholastic.com
DUE DATE: February 14, 2020. I will send home paper flyers, but I do ask that all ordering be done online under our class account. I will receive the books here at school and distribute them to your child. Our class code is MZNYB. It is certainly never required to order books, but many parents find this to be a good option to obtain resources for their children. I then use the bonus points that I receive to add to our classroom supplies. Thank you in advance for your support!
